Earth Networks severe weather alerting infrastructure utilizes live observations and severe weather detection capabilities to warn you when approaching severe weather becomes a threat to your location. Online and mobile customers receive notifications when the National Weather Service issues alerts. In addition to these alerts, Earth Networks provides advance notification of severe storm activity through proprietary alerts, such as the Earth Networks Dangerous Thunderstorm Alert. These alerts indicate the increased threat of severe weather moving into an identified area, and they are issued when the lightning detection rate exceeds high levels - a precursor to severe weather such as lightning strikes, heavy rain rates, hail, high winds and even tornadic activity.
